First released in 2005, the Yamaha VX series has been one of the most successful jet ski series ever made. Due to their continual success, Yamaha has continued to release new models just about every year since. In today’s Yamaha VX Cruiser review, I will cover all of the important specs you should know about the jet ski.
Yamaha VX Cruiser Review
The Yamaha VX Cruiser is a great jet ski that provides an excellent ride and desirable features. The only downside is the power might leave you wanting more.
Price
For starters, the Yamaha VX Cruiser costs around $12,500 new. This puts it in the middle of other VX models, as it is cheaper than the Cruiser HO, but more expensive than the VX and the VX deluxe.
You can buy used, quality Yamaha VX Cruisers for around $5,000 on the resale market. As a reminder, you should always test ride a used jet ski before you purchase it.
Design
While the Yamaha VX Cruiser is a bit on the heavier side with a dry weight of almost 700 lbs, it does provide great comfort. Both the seats and foot wells are wider than most jet skis, and you can comfortably fit two to three people on it.
The hull is designed to efficiently cut through the water while also providing adequate stability.
Display
One of my favorite features on the VX cruiser is the LCD display. It provides a plethora of display functions including speed, fuel level, RPM of the engine, shift direction, and a really cool drive control feature that helps optimize speed, acceleration, and fuel consumption.

Yamaha VX Cruiser RIDE Control
Another great feature on the VX Cruiser is the throttle control system. It allows riders to switch between the forward, neutral, and reverse gears. You can switch between all three directions by pulling the throttle once.
This is a great feature for beginners who are still getting used to maneuvering a jet ski in the water. It makes it much easier to dock the jet ski, and also makes it easier to ride between tight spaces or other watercrafts.
VX Cruiser Accessories
My favorite accessory on the VX Cruiser is the built-in audio system. It features two water proof marine speakers that you can connect to through Bluetooth.
The front of the jet ski also features a very cool mounting system that easily lets you attach your accessories. This is great if you want to attach a portable speaker, gps, fish finder, or go pro.
Storage
The VX Cruiser is also a great jet ski when it comes to storage. There are three different storage bins, including a waterproof glove box and front storage bin, as well as a storage compartment underneath the seat.
In total, the VX Cruiser has 30 gallons of storage space.
Engine/power
The VX Cruiser features 3-cylinder engine that has a displacement of 1049 cc and is rated at 125 horsepower.
The top speed of the VX Cruiser is around 53-55 mph. While this is more than enough for family and recreational use, some thrill seekers might want a little more power. If you want more power in your jet ski, I suggest you check out the VX Cruiser HO.
VX Cruiser HO Review
The VX Cruiser HO has many of the same features as the VX Cruiser, but it’s engine is much more powerful. This makes it a great alternative if you want to go faster.
The 4 cylinder engine on the VX Cruiser HO is rated at 180 horsepower, which is 55hp more than the VX Cruiser. It also has a higher top speed of 65 mph.
While it provides much more power and acceleration, it is less fuel efficient compared to the VX Cruiser.
The VX Cruiser HO also has a no wake feature that controls the power of the jet ski to make sure it doesn’t produce wake while you are in a no wake zone.
It is important to mention that this increased power comes at a higher price tag, as the VX Cruiser HO retails at $13,299, which is $800 more than the regular VX cruiser.
Conclusion
Whether you are riding on the lake or ocean, the Yamaha VX Cruiser is a very reliable jet ski that will certainly give you a good time on the water. It is a great value, as it retails for only $12,500. The only person I wouldn’t recommend it for is if you want to reach speeds of over 60 mph.
